Carol Calley (née Kawa), 85, passed away on January 31, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, following a short illness. She left this world just as she lived in it, surrounded by her family, who spent her final moments recalling stories of their wonderful, fond life with her. ​Born in Syracuse on New Year’s Day, 1941, to the late John and Florence Kawa, Carol lived a life defined by deep care for others. First and foremost a dedicated mother, her nurturing spirit extended well beyond her immediate family. She possessed a profound love for animals, caring for multiple horses throughout her life and welcoming creatures big and small into her heart.Carol was a woman of strong character; stubborn, certainly, but overwhelmingly kind. She never wanted to make a fuss, preferring to show her love through action and presence. Her family will forever cherish the memories of her opening her home every Sunday for family dinners, a tradition that kept them close. Her grandchildren, in particular, will fondly remember horseback riding with her on the farm and taking long walks along the Erie Canal.She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Calley; her daughter, Lisa Calley; her sister, Joanne Kawa; and her parents.​Carol’s legacy of kindness lives on through her family. She is survived by her son, John (Dawn) Calley; her devoted grandsons, Gary (Alexis) Calley, Joshua (Kristin) Calley, and Matthew (Darby) Calley, and their mother, Nancy Calley-Rudd; her great-granddaughter, Anna Calley; and several cousins.

​Per Carol’s wishes, services will be held as a Private Celebration of Life at a later date.
