Janet Frances Miller Obituary

Janet Joyner McNair Miller, 95 Passed away on Saturday September 6 th , 2025 with her

family by her side.

Janet was born on December 6 th, 1929 in Binghamton, NY. She was the daughter of

Andrew and Frances (Smith) Joyner. She graduated from Binghamton North High

School in 1948.

After Graduating High School, Janet would marry her first love, Robert McNair in the fall

of 1950. The early years of their marriage brought them to Albany where they both

worked for GE. During this time Janet met some of her closest friends, all of whom

would remain with her throughout their lives. During this time Janet and Robert would

move to Syracuse and found true joy within their two Children, Robert and Darleen.

Janet and Robert’s love story would come to close in in the spring of 1976 with the

unexpected passing of Robert.

A few years later, Janet was lucky to find her second great love, John Greg Miller.

Through this love she expanded her family, not just through her stepson Greg Jr, but

also through Greg’s 3 daughters, Stacey, Kelly and Jody. Janet and Greg watched their

family grow until Greg’s untimely death in the winter of 1986.

Janet was fortunate enough to find love a third time. In the early 1990s she would meet

Vern Storrings at a dance. Quiet, proper, demur Janet was taken by the larger than life

presence that was Vern. Though the two never married they were fierce and loyal

companions for over 20 years, blending their families yet again to see it grow even more

through Vern’s 4 children, Brian, Linda, Cindy and Mary. Janet and Vern shared many

great times through dancing, travel and family milestones. In the spring of 2007 Janet

and the extended family said goodbye to Vern as he too left us too soon.

As much as Janet loved to talk about her family, she equally talked about her career at

Upstate Medical as the secretary for Dr. Mantosh Dewan. Her time at Upstate was

some of the happiest times of her life, only 2 nd to her extended blended family. She

would retire from Upstate in 1998. Janet would spend the remainder of her years in

Syracuse where she would enjoy her garden, playing cards with her friends at the Frank

DeFrancisco Community Center, and spending time with her family, which was her

source of pride and joy and so much more.

Janet is predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Francis Joyner, brother Frederick

Joyner, sisters Anne Weist, and Rita Zacharias, Husbands Robert McNair, J. Greg

Miller, and Companion Vern Storrings. Janet is Survived by, brother Robert (Jackie)

Joyner, Sister in law Lorraine (Frederick) Joyner, Son Robert (Companion Deb Taylor)

McNair, Daughter Darleen Radney (Husband Ben Traficanna), Stepson Greg (Wife

Bonnie) Miller, and Linda Young, Cindy (Husband Rob) Zuber, Brian (Wife Bethany)

Storrings, and Mary Storrings. Additionally, Janet is survived by many nieces, nephews,

grandchildren, and great grandchildren. All of whom will remember her for the right

reasons. And thanks to Janet’s ability to love, we will all have each other.
