Obituary of Eugene L Swedowski

Eugene “Geno” Swedowski, 94 years old, also known lovingly as “Poppy”, passed
away on March 22 nd , 2025 at Loretto Nursing Home. He was the husband of
Delores Duca Swedowski. Born in Syracuse, NY on November 22 nd , 1930, he was
the son of Joseph and Agnes (Duda) Swedowski. Geno was a proud United States
Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean War from 1949-1953 spending 29 months
in Korea and the far East. He was later employed at General Electric for 35 years
retiring in 1990.
Geno was a proud member of the Eastwood Bears and Eagles, American Legion
Post 1650, and the Pastime Athletic Club. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening,
spending time with his family, and watching Syracuse University Football and
Basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. He will be remembered for his quick wit
and jokes, dedication and pride in his family, his generous heart asking for nothing
in return, insightful words of wisdom, passion for education and intellectual
growth, ability to connect with anyone, positive impact that he left in every path he
crossed, and his wide-range of life stories. He is survived by his sister Dorothy
Czarnecki, spouse Delores Swedowski, children David (Mary) Swedowski and
Marisa (Michael) Schinto, grandchildren Maria and Davita Swedowski, and Talia
and Giada Schinto, great-grandpups Xena, Xyla, Cali, and Xander, and several
nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Agnes Swedowski. 
The visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26 th , 2025 at 4:00pm-7:00pm. 
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27 th ,  2025 at 9:30am at Hollis
Funeral Home, 1105 West Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13204 with interment at
Woodlawn Cemetery.  
The Swedowski Family would like to send special recognition to Loretto Nursing
Home’s 13 th  floor staff for the devoted care they provided our beloved Poppy
during his residence there.
