John Valentine Lupkowski Obituary

John V. Lupkowski, 95, of Syracuse, NY, passed away on March 19, 2025. He was married to his devoted wife,

Sophie (Piotrowski), for 66 years.

John was born in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania to John F. and Mary (Witek) Lupkowski. His family moved to a

family farm in Port Byron, NY in 1932 and later settled in Syracuse, NY in 1944. He graduated from Vocational

High School in 1947 and attended Syracuse University.

After high school, John held numerous jobs, working at Nettleton Shoes, Sealtest and Syracuse China. He then

served his country from 1951 to 1953 in the First Army as part of the post-WWII Occupation in Europe and

continued his service in the Air Force Reserve until 1957. After discharge from active service, he worked at

Western Electric as a skilled tradesman starting in 1953 and retired in 1984.

He was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Basilica, Syracuse. He enjoyed participating in church

activities and events. In his younger years, he acted as an assistant Scoutmaster. John was an avid gardner

and enjoyed fishing, bowling, hunting and especially camping with his family. John was a highly skilled

carpenter and in his free time built many pieces of furniture for his family and friends.

John leaves three children to cherish his memory, his daughter Jeanette (Edward Reynolds) of Middletown, DE,

and his sons Robert John of Syracuse and Mark (Debbi Yi) of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his dear grandchildren,

Valerie (Nicholas Ryder) and Edward John (Emma Carlsson). He also received much joy from his two great-

grandchildren Robert and Grace Ryder. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and

great-nephews.

John was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Jerzgarzewski, Mary Lupkowski (infant), Lottie Lupkowski and Mary

A. Horzempa and his brothers, Edward and Henry.

John was a kind, generous, friendly, and humorous man who was always eager to help others. John made great

efforts to help his family in every way possible, and above all else, put the needs and happiness of his family

first. He will be greatly missed by his family who will cherish memories of him always.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staffs of the Neurology Department and the Chaplains at

Upstate University Hospital as well as Loretto Fahey 2.
