Marty "Woodmeister" Allen

Martin G. Allen, affectionately known as "Marty" and lovingly called "Woodmeister" by those closest to him, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, in Oswego, NY, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on November 7, 1960, in Fulton, NY, Marty was a man of kindness, laughter, and deep love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Diane Allen, and his beloved daughter, Kristian Allen (Ryan Kilpatrick), who was his "little girl" and the joy of his life. Marty is also survived by his sister, Diane Stoutenger (Michael Stoutenger); two brothers, Richard Allen (Alice Allen) and Rodger Allen; his sister-in-law, Audrey Avery (Charles Avery); and the family he chose, Amy Monaghan Brown (Mark Brown). Marty also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family whom he cherished deeply. He was preceded in death by loved ones who now welcome him with open arms.

Marty’s passions were as vast as his heart. Known as a “jack of all trades,” he could fix, build, or create just about anything. An avid woodworker, he was a master craftsman who delighted in creating cabinetry and projects that left a mark of his skill and dedication. A proud supporter of the Miami Dolphins, Marty found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was cheering on his team through thick and thin, creating beautiful projects, or sharing laughter with those he loved. Marty proudly served as a volunteer firefighter for the Granby Fire Department for nearly a decade, embodying his selfless and compassionate spirit. He also dedicated his career to helping others, working as an EMT, spending 21 years at Syracuse China, and later at Oswego County Opportunities, where he ensured every passenger felt seen, heard, and valued.

Known for his infectious laugh and ability to bring joy to any situation, Marty had an uncanny knack for turning the ordinary into extraordinary. As a father, he was nothing short of remarkable. He spent Kristian’s childhood building ramps for neighborhood bike adventures, organizing impromptu fishing trips, and hosting front-yard camping parties filled with laughter and wonder. His love extended beyond his own family, he was a father figure to many, always offering open arms and a kind word.

As a husband, Marty adored Diane with unwavering devotion. He made it his mission to ensure her happiness, often expressing his love through words and actions that reflected his natural caregiving spirit. He could frequently be heard bragging about his wife, sharing stories of their adventures, and telling her how much he loved her.

Marty’s legacy is one of kindness, acceptance, and love. He embraced people for who they were, offering guidance, support, and laughter to everyone he met. His light and joy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on February 2, 2025, in the Municipal Building Community Room located at 141 S. 1st Street, Fulton, NY, 13069, from 2 PM to 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you carry forward Marty’s spirit by sharing kindness and joy with others, as he so often did.
