Katherine C Rugh Obituary

Katherine C. Rugh, 63, of Syracuse passed away on August 26, 2023, at her home on Tipperary Hill.

Born in Rochester, NY, she attended Rochester schools before moving to Syracuse. Rinna, as friends

called her, spent her working life in retail for over 40 years. She started in the Downtown Syracuse

Sibley’s Department Store and finished at Macy’s at Destiny Mall. Most of Rinna’s retail career was

spent in the women’s shoe department and she became affectionately known as the “shoe lady.”

Rinna was a very giving person and donated her time to charity organizations and contributed her talent

as a skilled knitter donating hats, scarves, and mittens to both friends and charities. She donated her

time to help with fundraisers for both Francis House and the CNY Food Bank. She also volunteered for

countless Tipperary Hill Neighborhood events and was a proud resident and supporter of Tipperary Hill.

Rinna will be missed by all who knew her.

Rinna was predeceased by her mother Jan Evans-Tiller, her father Christian Rugh, and her brother John

Rugh.

A burial will be held at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, on Tipperary Hill, on Monday July 28, 2025 at noon.

Donations can be made in Rinna’s name to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, 13208; The Food

Bank of Central New York, 7066 Interstate Island Rd, Syracuse, 13209; and/or The Tipperary Hill

Neighborhood Association, 110 South Lowell Ave., Syracuse, 13204.
