Obituary of Marcianna Zack

Please share a memory of Marcianna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marcianna “Marcia” (Haberek) Zack 90, formerly of Lakeland, died peacefully at St. Camillus on December 19th after an extended illness. She was born April 23, 1930 to the late Walter and Teofilia (Kalinowski) Haberek. She married her partner for life, Julian Anthony Zack, on August 22, 1953 and spent almost 63 years together until Julian’s passing in April 2016. She was the last of her generation, the youngest of 10 children, predeceased by brothers – Edward (Edgie), Walter, Roman (Ralph), Richard (Buddie), and sisters Mary Przybycien, Lucielle (Lucy) Zarachowicz, Veronica (Bobbie) Ubowski, Dominica (Mini) McKlosky and Stella Dembowski.

SURVIVING are her children: Christine Shephard of Lakeland, Judy Ann (William) Dougherty of Syracuse, Cynthia (Gary) LaPorta of Rochester, Mark R. Zack of Baldwinsville and John D. Zack (Roberta Jordan) of Baldwinsville; grandchildren Gwendolyn, Joshua and Xavier Dougherty, Alexander and Benjamin Przepiora, and Katelyn Zack, and many nieces and nephews with whom she shared a close and special relationship.

Marcia retired in January 2015 from ‘driving the bus’ after a 38 year career which started with Golden Arrow, continued with T-N-T, and finished with First Student. There wasn’t a street or location in the City of Syracuse or the County of Onondaga she didn’t know. She was a member of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,  Rosary Society, Confraternity of Christian Mothers, and Lakeland Seniors. She always had a smile on her face and would help anyone who would ask. Her family was the center of her life.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no calling hours. Family and friends may attend her Mass of Christian burial at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at 9:30 am on Wednesday December 23rd , where social distancing and mask wearing are required.

Private burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes.

The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Camillus for their exceptional care of Marcia. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Syracuse or the Alzheimer’s Association.

“I expect to pass through this life but once. If therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.”   - William Penn
