To the Gervais Family: My sincere condolences to all of you on the passing of Dick. He was a terrific cop and an even better gentleman. His quiet, friendly demeanor belied his outstanding skills as an investigator in CID. Always the guy with a smile and a good word, he was well respected and admired by not only his co-workers in SPD, but by the citizens of Syracuse as well. Mr and Mrs Gervais’ daughter Amy was a student at Bellevue Elementary School when I taught there in the 70’s. Amy was a wonderfully delightful child and her parents were so supportive of our school community and very, very kind. My sympathy and prayers to Mr Gervais’ family, especially to Amy, on the loss of your Dad. I hope you take much comfort knowing he is reunited with your Mom. Rest In Peace, Mr Gervais; you were definitely one of the good guys.

Dick was a great man and Cop. I worked with him in CID for many years. He was a quiet and friendly man who never seemed to have a bad day. He was always pleasant to me around. A kinder easy going man would be hard to find. RIP Dick and thanks for everything you did . Tim Erwin

Sadden to read of Dick's passing. He and my Dad worked in SPD / CID together for years. Then Dick started his 2nd career at Key Bank as an Investigator. When I retired from the Sheriff's department I worked alongside of Dick at Key bank. His work ethic was to be admired. We worked together on a daily basis and I so much enjoyed his being a mentor & friend. He loved his "Northern escape" camp and his place to unwind. He was very proud of his family and loved his travel adventures. A good man with positive attitude about work & life. RIP my friend.
