Obituary of Francis Hosek

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Frank Hosek, 82, passed away peacefully at the home he built in Syracuse surrounded by family on March 26.  Frank married the love of his life Patience Roberts, in 1960.

He was born on June 6, 1937 to Francis and Mary Hosek in Syracuse, NY, where he lived, loved, laughed, danced and played his entire life.  Frank founded and was the owner and president of Eastern Painting Company.

Frank was known for his strong work ethic and his commitment to quality and service - the pillars upon which he built Eastern Painting which he ran everyday for the past 54 years. Even though many considered him the toughest guy they knew, many also deep down knew him as the nicest guy they ever met.

Frank was a Eucharistic Minister at his beloved St. Lucy’s Church on the West Side, assisting Father Jim Matthews.  He practiced a deep devotion to his Catholic faith with not only adherence to the "rules" (church on Sunday, fish on Friday, Stations, Penance) but the “walk” of his faith exemplified by his generosity and volunteering to help where needed.

Frank had a strong passion for his family, his work, faith and music.  Frank loved music.  A self-taught keyboard wizard, he would unwind with a blast on his Wurlitzer or the twinkling of the ivories on his hand-made electric piano.  He shared his love of music - taking his family to the Jazz festivals in Saratoga; showing his sisters to a Montalbano evening at the Savoy in Rome and long ago to Raphael’s.

Frank is survived by his wife of 60 years Pat.  He is also survived by his loving children Frank (Kathy) Hosek, Holly (David) Langdon, Honor (Jim) Sherlock and Heidi (Steve) Andrews, all of Syracuse, and by his cherished grandchildren Hali, Stephen, Abagail, Matthew, Lauren, Brianna, Bridget and Madelyn and his great-grandson William.  Frank is also survived by his sister Judy Viencek and Michelle (Kevin) Schisler of Syracuse.  Frank’s many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will surely miss his friendly greetings and good company.

Services will be private with Rite of Committal at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Lakeland.  A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St Lucy's Church at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to St Lucy’s Food Pantry 432 Gifford St, Syracuse, NY 13204
