Obituary of Laura M. Metot (Holst)

Please share a memory of Laura to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Laura Margaret Metot (Holst), 83 of Bernhards Bay, New York passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2017 with her husband and daughter by her side at the Halifax Health – Hospice Care Center. Laura was born in Bernhards Bay, New York to Paul and Myrtle Holst on August 11, 1934. Her life was full of love for her family and friends. Laura bravely fought pancreatic cancer during her last 20 months with strength, bravery, and a strong will to live. We are grateful to have had her in our life as long as we did, but it still wasn’t enough time. She was loved!

She is survived by her husband Gerald Eugene Metot, her son, Paul Charles (Janice) Metot, and her daughter Mary Anne Kayler (Metot), and her sister Barbara Brown and her brothers Paul (Nona) and David (Patti) Holst.

Laura loved her grandchildren! She is survived by Christopher Paul Kayler, Arielle Laura Metot, Allison Louise Vella (John), and Alexander Paul Metot. Porter Winston Kayler, her great grandson, and Jessica Lee were loved the moment they came into her life. Numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews survive Laura.

Laura was a graduate of Paul V. Moore High School. She worked for Agway in accounting and was an office manager at McIntosh Pallet. Laura was a loving and caring wife and a best friend to all - especially her husband of 62 years. Her home was the center of family holidays, dinners and special occasions for many years as she prepared numerous meals with love, her special ingredient. All who knew her loved her beautiful smile, warmth, sense of humor, generosity, and kindness. She loved life and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid Scrabble and Words With Friends player and taught many of us the gift of persistence. She enjoyed playing golf, had a deep appreciation of nature, gardening, and loved a good storm! Laura loved her many pets over the years and enjoyed traveling after her retirement. Laura was active in her community and supported the North Shore Community Chorus and served as secretary of the Lakeside Rural Cemetery in Bernhards Bay for over 20 years. She will be forever missed by her family and friends, but not forgotten.

A special thanks to all the many friends and family who were steadfast in sending their many cards, letters, and phone calls while she battled pancreatic cancer. This small act of kindness mattered and supported her fight. And with heartfelt thanks to the Halifax Health – Hospice, West Volusia Care Center, Orange City, Florida for the kindness and care she received during her final days.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Laura’s life on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00am at the Bernhards Bay Methodist Church with a gathering to follow at the American Legion, Cleveland, New York. Contributions in her memory may be made to: Lakeside Rural Cemetery, North Shore Community Chorus, the Bernhards Bay Methodist Church, or a local charity of your choice.
