January 9, 2008 Florence E. (Piela) Indyk of Agawam, Massachusetts died on January 9, 2008. She was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and resided in Syracuse, New York prior to moving to Florida in 1982. She moved to be near her son and family, becoming a resident of Agawam in September of 2001. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church of Syracuse, New York; New Smyrna Beach, Florida; and Agawam, Massachusetts. Mrs. Indyk, a graduate of Powelson Business Institute, enjoyed a career as secretary with the International Harvester Company and Bristol-Myers Company (Syracuse), having retired from the Industrial Division of Bristol-Myers in 1981. As a member of the Polish National Alliance, she directed the youth of the Saint Louis Society, Group #2157 (Syracuse) in dramatics and folk dances. She was an officer and active member of the St. Louis Club Ladies Circle, and a member of Elk Ladies, Lodge #1557, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Over the years, she had been an active bowler in many leagues both in Syracuse and Florida. Mrs. Indyk, widow of Peter Indyk, is survived by her son, Dr. Robert P. Indyk and his wife, Gail of Southampton, Massachusetts; two sisters – Charlotte Przybyl of Syracuse, New York and Dolores Hoyt of Georgetown, Texas; one brother – William Piela of West End, North Carolina; two grandchildren – Tracey Scalzo of Northampton, Massachusetts and Eric Indyk of Easthampton, Massachusetts; five great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. There will be a Mass in her honor at Sacred Heart Basilica on August 16, 2008 at 9 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Basilica 927 Park Avenue Syracuse, New York 13204.
